In this editorial, we introduce the “paper collection” as a new structure for scholarly conversations around a theme. This is also an occasion to reflect on the ways we scholars are guided to find important scholarship. Is serendipity important? What invisible structures guide our choices, and thus our perceptions of what comprises our research field?
