The described PhD-project aims to characterize scientific knowledge and abilities of participants at different students’ science competitions in contrast to non-participating students. The chapter, which comprises the first half of the PhD-project, describes the motivation and the start of a PhD in a larger project. The process of the development of the test and the challenges that appeared are also explained. The chapter describes the issues of the study itself and consequences that were derived for the test and the ongoing study.
