Education Minister and State Secretaries visit the IPN

On May 28, the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN) welcomed Dr. Dorit Stenke, education minister of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, and Guido Wendt, State Secretary in her ministry, the Ministry of General Education and Vocational Training, Science, Research and Culture, alongside Prof. Dr. Steffen Teichert, State Secretary in the ministry of education, research and culture of the state of Thuringia.

Prof. Dr. Olaf Köller, Managing Director of Research at the IPN, opened the gathering by giving an outline of the institute and its work, with an emphasis on the areas of research and knowledge transfer. The discussions that ensued centered on math and science skills and on what learners require if they are to build on their knowledge. One topic of conversation that drew a great deal of lively interest was the use of artificial intelligence in research and in the day-to-day life of schools.

The policymakers’ visit highlighted the significance of evidence-based education research and the vital contribution of the IPN in providing scientific input for decision-making processes in education, in Schleswig-Holstein and beyond.
