The IPN
Welcome to the website of the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN) in Kiel, Germany. Here you will find general information about the Institute.
The IPN conducts basic and applied research on topics related to learning and teaching of science, mathematics, and - since 2022 - computer science in and outside of school. It concentrates its nationwide activities on projects of special interest to the federal and state governments and those which cannot be carried out by the universities.
Announcement
Research at the IPN Kiel is ongoing. In the Announcement section, we therefore provide information about current developments at the institute as well as from the world of educational research. This includes news in which we briefly and clearly summarize information about upcoming events, and an overview of the latest publications involving IPN researchers. We also present the IPN Journal, which is published at regular intervals and provides insights into the IPN's current research projects.
About Us
Research for society - With this motto, the IPN dedicates itself to the task of enabling people to become professionally, culturally and socially involved. This mission is described in detail in the About Us section. As an institute of the Leibniz Association, the IPN looks back on a history of more than 50 years, a history we would also like to present. You will find how the institute is currently organized and information about committees and departments at the IPN that support this research mission.
Departments
Research at the IPN is carried out in seven departments, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the institute and its research topics. The administration and support services departments provide assistance for research operations. In the section Departments, each department of the IPN presents itself individually and informs about current projects and topics. You will also get an insight into the people behind the research.
