Learning science in preschool is getting increased attention. Little is known about the interest in science and beliefs about the nature of knowledge and learning and teaching of preschool teachers. In this article the results of a survey of 130 preschool teachers in Germany are presented. The research indicates preschool teachers’ positive attitudes towards science in the early childhood. Almost all preschool teachers prefer constructivist orientations on teaching and learning science, but one third of the teachers also shows a direct transmission view of teaching and learning.
