Instead of unstable tartrate Benedict's reagent contains citrate for detecting of sugars and instead of sodium hydroxide, soda is used. When using the 60-degree water bath there is no delay in superheating and last but not least Benedict's reagent manages with only one storage bottle instead of two which is the case with Fehling. It is possible to produce Benedict’s reagent quite easily and cost effectively with the enclosed instructions. Who would like to forgo so many advantages in science lessons?
