In most medicine cabinets, sometimes even in the glove compartment of the car, or in many handbags, at least one of the four most common over-the-counter painkillers can be found. In order of the total sales, they are ibuprofen (46%), acetylsalicylic acid (also called ASA or Aspirin®, partially combined with vitamin C, caffeine, etc.; 29%), paracetamol (11%), and diclofenac (7%). Although, chemically, they are all very similar, they can be easily distinguished between with the following experiments.
