The element manganese appears in seven levels of oxidation and impresses with a variety of color phenomena, which is why it is also called chameleon of the elements. The article leads with experimental instructions for the migration of violet permanganations in the electric field via the oxidation of different alcohols over a theoretical excursion about stability and electron configurations to a task of the ChemieOlympiade.
