Text comprehension is an essential element of teaching. Especially for German highschool textbooks it is often stated that they are not well written regarding students text comprehension abilities. One possibility facing this situation is revising the texts along typical suggestions from text comprehension research. In this study we made use of such variations and compared texts for physics and chemistry in an intervention-controll-group design using pre and post measures. We found that while students learn from all texts, there is surprisingly no influence of whether they read an original textbook text or a revised version. On the one hand this could encourage teachers taking more use of science textbooks in class. On the other hand it leads to the question how one could help poor readers.
