Online event (in German), September 20th, 2022: STEM education - Where will the skilled workers of tomorrow come from?

August 30, 2022

acatec on Tuesday" event: Prof. Dr. Olaf Köller (IPN) and Prof. Dr. Sabine Kunst (Joachim Herz Stiftung / aatech member) discuss the current STEM Young Talent Barometer.

This year's acatech and the Joachim Herz Foundation's STEM Young Talent Barometer showed that the corona pandemic has also taken its toll on STEM education. Prof. Dr. Olaf Köller from the IPN was the scientific director of the study.

Global challenges and changes such as climate change and the switch to renewable energy systems affect us and future generations. To meet these challenges, we need well-trained young people in the STEM subjects (mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology). This is the only way we can master these tasks and secure the future viability of Germany as a center of innovation. The shortage of skilled workers on the labor market and the challenges of shaping digital transformation show how important a basic STEM education is.

The latest edition of the STEM Young Talent Barometer provides an opportunity to discuss the following questions at "acatech on Tuesday": How can we fully utilize the STEM specialist potential? What measures help to reduce student dropout in the engineering sciences? And how can the ratio of women in STEM education be increased?
