March 10, 2022: Climate change and its consequences - digital continuing education for teachers and student teachers including reflection on subject teaching methods

March 9th, 2022

Prof. Dr. Mojib Latif from GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel will give a lecture in German on the topic of climate change and its consequences in an advanced training course for teachers and student teachers on Thursday, March 10, 2022. The lecture will be concluded with reflections on the teaching of the subject.

The course is free of charge.

The topic of climate change has resonated with students for some time. The lecture offers a comprehensive insight into current research on the causes, extent and likely consequences of climate change. In the context of "Fridays for Future", the presentation will reflect on the topic not only from the perspective of subject understanding, but also on aspects of science literacy and engagement.

The lecture by Mojib Latif's will be the last in the series "From research into education - shaping lessons with exciting research topics", a format of digital continuing education lectures with subsequent reflection on subject teaching. It is a cooperative project involving Kiel University ("LeaP@CAU"), the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education ("IPN"), the Kiel Student Research Center ("Kieler Forschungswerkstatt"), the student laboratory jointly operated by CAU and the IPN, and the Institute for Quality Development in Schools Schleswig-Holstein ("IQSH").

The training series was extremely successful. A total of approximately 120 people registered, including almost 90 teachers and student teachers. Participants also came from beyond the borders of Schleswig-Holstein.

The training series was also very well received by the participants: "It is a pleasure to be presented with so many interesting facts from so many different areas. Thank you very much!" or "Thank you very much for the super interesting lecture and the many good suggestions!" or "I think this format here is great" was frequently heard feedback.

LeaP@CAU is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the joint "Quality Offensive Teacher Education". More information (in German) on the continuing education series and registration can be found on the CAU website: https://www.uni-kiel.de/de/detailansicht/news/005-forschung-schule.
