Schule macht stark – SchuMaS
The collaborative project "Schule macht stark - SchuMaS"(School makes you strong) aims to promote the basic linguistic and mathematical competencies, the social learning, and the learning motivation of students at elementary and lower secondary level from 200 schools in challenging social situations across Germany. The starting points of the research-based and practice-oriented support lie in the development of teaching (with a focus on German and mathematics lessons), the professionalization of teachers and other pedagogical staff (in subject-related and interdisciplinary areas), the targeted further development of school development capacities, school culture, and leadership, as well as the expansion and strengthening of networking in the socio-spatial environment of the schools.
Together with the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN), the University of Potsdam is responsible for the Professionalization content cluster. This cluster will focus on the interdisciplinary further qualification of teachers. The recommendations made in this cluster should encourage a sustainable professionalization process in schools and should develop standards and routines for professionalization. Particular attention will be paid to reaching as many teachers as possible at the schools so that the professionalization measures have a positive effect that is practically relevant for learners.
At the end of the project, a wide range of findings on the conditions for success and for successful formats of school and classroom development and social networking at schools in challenging social situations will be presented so that they can then be used for the subsequent transfer phase of the initiative "Schule macht stark" at the federal and state level.
